In fact, this tower is a place where Zoroastrians used to place the bodies of their dead to be eaten by predators and birds.
Zoroastrian’s Dakhmeh is near Yazd, 15 km southeast of the city. Indeed, it is one of the largest and most important crypts of Zoroastrians in the world.
On the top of the mountain, there are two tower-like circular stone structures with an empty belly-like middle.
The Zoroastrians considered the world to consist of the four elements of water, fire, earth, and air. Also, they did not consider death as destruction but as a journey to another world. So in Zoroastrianism, mourning for the dead was strictly forbidden. Thus, they used to take the dead to the silent tower or crypt to return his or her body to nature without contaminating the natural elements.
